Sandvik, a prominent engineering group, has recently finalized an agreement to purchase Diemme Filtration, an Italian firm renowned for its filtration and dewatering solutions tailored for the mining sector.
This strategic acquisition represents Sandvik's strategic entry into the critical filtration and dewatering segment, aiming to expand its product and service offerings throughout the entire mining value chain. Diemme Filtration will subsequently integrate into Sandvik's Rock Processing business area, forming a specialized Filtration division. The company's expertise in solid-liquid separation technologies is highly valued for its ability to boost productivity, improve water recovery, and optimize tailings management in mining operations. Diemme Filtration's comprehensive business model includes custom-engineered filtration systems, a growing aftermarket service division, and advanced monitoring and predictive maintenance software. These digital capabilities are expected to significantly complement Sandvik Rock Processing's existing digital service portfolio. Employing approximately 200 individuals, Diemme Filtration operates a manufacturing facility and actively engages in research and development, serving a diverse international clientele across various mining sectors, including copper, gold, nickel, and battery materials. Sandvik projects that this investment will yield returns aligning with its capital costs within three years, with further improvements anticipated thereafter. The specific financial terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed, though Sandvik anticipates a positive impact on its earnings per share, excluding purchase price allocation effects. The transaction is projected to conclude by the third quarter of 2026.
Stefan Widing, President and CEO of Sandvik, expressed his enthusiasm for the acquisition, emphasizing its alignment with the company's strategy to grow within attractive niche markets in downstream mining. He highlighted that Diemme Filtration brings a profitable and rapidly expanding segment in mineral processing, which will bolster Sandvik's core offerings and strengthen its relationships with key mining clients, particularly through its appealing aftermarket business. This move follows Sandvik's recent achievement earlier this month, where it secured a significant contract with JCHX Mining Management from China. This contract involves supplying an extensive fleet of underground mining equipment for the Khoemacau Copper Mine located in Botswana.
This acquisition exemplifies a forward-thinking approach to business expansion and technological integration. By incorporating Diemme Filtration's expertise, Sandvik not only broadens its market reach but also reinforces its commitment to sustainable and efficient mining practices, contributing to industrial advancement and environmental stewardship.
